Enhancing Richmond Retail Community - The Buxton Report

August 23, 2007

Wayne County Economic leaders are looking at a recent retail study as a potentially major economic tool.

The Buxton Group, a national consulting firm was hired by The City of Richmond, Wayne County Economic Development Corporation, and a number of other public and private groups to conduct a study to analyze Richmond’s market spending habits and characteristics.  The information is vital to existing retailers and helpful to planning the growth of retail business in Richmond and Wayne County.

“The study is going to create a dialogue, and not just here, about our community,” said Chamber President Dennis Andrews. “Once we post the study on the internet, anybody in the world has access to it and to the information about our community.”

The report aims to identify more opportunities for existing retailers, and to analyze and list other retail businesses that would fit well into the community.  It also includes a list of specific regional and national chains that would do well here.

The result is a community snapshot that will help local retail businesses and restaurants plot strategies and help economic development experts recruit other retailers.
